Notes, Info, Tips, Comments and Observations

Sometimes I am excited about things I discover or learn about and would like to share the information with others. This would be a good place for this type of information.

Drop me a note if you would like to add anything (non-commercial) to this page.

  1. February 19, 2006:

An estimated 1.3 million rock fans in Brazil enjoyed a Rolling Stones concert on Rio's Copacabana Beach - one of the biggest gigs the world has seen. The band played some 20 songs including Jumpin' Jack Flash and Satisfaction.

The stage, facing Sugar Loaf Mountain, was the height of a seven-story building and had a walkway linking it to the Stones' hotel. The show was part of the Stones' A Bigger Bang world tour.

The city paid $750,000 (£432,000) for the gig, which took place just a week before Rio's famous carnival. Fans in the US were able to listen to the show on radio and on the internet, as well as on more than 150 cinema screens across the country.

Saturday's crowd was not as big as that at Rod Stewart's 1994 concert, also at Copacabana beach, which drew a crowd of 3.5 million.

  2. Thinking about a career change? An article by Marianne Kolbasuk McGee in the February 2, 1998 issue of InformationWeek reports that "Nearly 350,000 IT jobs are vacant, according to the Information Technology Association of America, a vendor trade group. In the future, there will be plenty of demand: 1.3 million IT jobs will be createdover the next 10 years, predicts the Commerce Department." Some companies have even hired applicants with a 2-year college degree.

You can see that the information, while useful, is a little out of date. Send me a link to the latest info, and I'll replace it. Thanks in advance!

  3. More information will appear here as soon as I think of something useful. Be patient - this might take a while!
